He also provides toxicology consulting for chemical exposure cases such as benzene, solvents, and carbon monoxide. Ethan has experience conducting file review, analysis, research, and report writing.
John W. Spencer has been an industrial hygienist for more than 35 years. Before joining J.S. Held, he was President of Environmental Profiles, Inc. for nearly 30 years. Prior to that, he was Vice President of National Medical Advisory Services in Bethesda, Maryland, and President of DMW Environmental Services, Inc. in Baltimore, Maryland. As team leader/industrial hygienist for the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and National Occupational Exposure Survey, he conducted research and audits of several hundred manufacturing, health care, and other businesses throughout the United States. As an industrial hygienist for the United States Coast Guard, he conducted thousands of exposure assessments, including a wide range of products and numerous asbestos-containing materials. His responsibilities also included the management of the occupational medical monitoring program for the 5th Coast Guard District.
Dale Johnson has over 35 years of experience specializing in providing technical consulting services to commercial industries and the federal government in the areas of occupational safety and health. These services have included safety and health program development, implementation, and review, on-site regulatory compliance inspections and risk assessments, industrial hygiene exposure assessments, safety and health training, and product risk assessments.
Mark Nealley is a project manager in the EHS group, provides occupational and environmental health and safety technical consulting and project management services to existing clients, and develops working relationships both within and outside the company. He holds a Master of Science in Environmental Biology from Hood College, is a board-certified industrial hygienist (CIH), and has provided diverse occupational health, safety, and environmental consulting services to industrial and commercial clients for over 30 years.
Marc provides industrial hygiene, safety & health, and environmental risk management consulting services to commercial, industrial, and government clients. His work experience includes industrial hygiene surveys and exposure assessments, facility audits, risk analysis, and research for decision-making support. He also develops health and safety plans, performs indoor environmental quality evaluations, and protocol development for site auditing.
Arnold "Barney" E. Beermann III specializes in product stewardship evaluations, field monitoring, and occupational health and safety litigation support. He is also proficient in diverse computer programs and platforms such as Adobe (InDesign, Premier Pro, Photoshop), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, blogs), and in Stata & IHMOD statistical software, and in AIHA Stat statistical software.
Robert G. Costello is a Certified Industrial Hygienist with over 43 years of experience in developing and executing Environmental, Health & Safety programs within governmental, academic, and manufacturing industries. Within the governmental sector, he conducted compliance industrial hygiene inspections across the State of Maryland and oversaw the first Asbestos worker training certification program in the nation for the Maryland Department of Health. Within the academic sector, he was the industrial hygienist for The Johns Hopkins Institutions, including the university and medical operations and campuses. Within the manufacturing sector, he has been responsible for developing the EHS programs for a multi-national specialty chemical company’s corporate R&D site. He also provided global H&S support and execution of industrial hygiene programs for a multi-national manufacturing operation. He has also developed comprehensive EHS programs for start-up e-scrap/e-waste operations resulting in industry certification.
Monica McCaskill specializes in occupational health and safety evaluation, product stewardship evaluations, field monitoring, and occupational health and safety litigation support. She evaluated occupational health and safety hazards during compliance inspections and monitored various exposures. She has performed research and assisted in case preparation for legal cases involving chemical exposure and toxic tort issues, as well as evaluated and characterized human health risks for various occupational exposures such as bloodborne pathogens, noise, carbon monoxide, hexavalent chromium, solvents including benzene, and dust exposures including asbestos and silica. Industries previously evaluated include construction, product manufacturing, food and beverage processing, chemical processing, automotive, healthcare, and government agencies.
Luisa Sarmiento is an Environmental Scientist and Industrial Hygienist for J.S. Held. Luisa has a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering from Universidad de Los Andes and a Master of Public Health with a focus in Environmental Health from Emory University.
Bill Stephens is a Senior Technical Consultant in J.S. Held’s Environmental, Health & Safety Practice. Bill’s natural resource career includes multi-community bio-assessments, aquatic ecology, fishery assessments and aquaculture management, biomonitoring, and ecosystem management, aquatic ecotoxicology, environmental chemistry, surface water monitoring, and assessments. Bill’s professional work experience spans 41 years with 15 years as an environmental consultant and 26 years in the aquaculture industry. Collaborative work with consultants, industries, researchers, and regulators through field studies and assessments, wetland delineations, agency negotiations, and permitting has fueled his search for effective compliance solutions and appropriate management practices supporting a sustainable economy and maintaining ecosystem integrity. His knowledge, skills, and abilities allow him to interact with multiple stakeholders to prevent and solve problems.
