Asbestos Inspections, Testing, Project Management, Project Design, Clearance & Monitoring

Insulation, flooring, textured paint, ceilings/roof tiles, and other building materials have the potential to contain asbestos. Exposure to asbestos can result in serious illnesses such as cancer, mesothelioma, and asbestosis. Both the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) require an asbestos inspection before demolishing, restoring, or remodeling most properties.

Our team is retained to evaluate sites for the presence of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs), develop abatement specifications if ACMs are discovered, monitor remediation activities, and conduct clearance testing to verify asbestos removal.

Moisture Mapping & Thermal Imagery Assessments

Water damage isn’t always immediately apparent. It can leak through walls, floorboards, and gaps that aren’t visible to the human eye. Our industrial hygienists are trained to identify water damage through the use of infrared cameras, thermo hygrometers, moisture meters, and moisture mapping technology. Through the use of moisture mapping and thermal imagery, we are able to provide detailed visual documentation depicting the extent of water damage.

Mold Investigations & Remediation Protocols

Water damage from hurricanes, flooding, or building assembly/component failures can result in mold growth. If left untreated, mold can impact indoor air quality and cause potential harm to human health. Our team performs in-depth investigations to determine the presence of mold, either pre- or post-remediation. We also develop mold remediation protocols, oversee remediation contractor services, and provide post-remediation verification testing.

Smoke Testing

After a fire, our team is brought in to complete thorough fire and smoke damage assessments. Our industrial hygienists analyze the extent of associated smoke damage and advise on which elements of a structure and the contents within have been impacted by smoke.

Development of Mitigation Programs for Environmental & Occupational Hazards

When confronted with environmental and occupational hazards, clients retain J.S. Held to develop detailed programs to effectively mitigate health and safety risks, including mold, lead, asbestos, smoke, noise, machinery, or any other type of job safety hazard.

Indoor Air Quality Testing

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) testing determines pollutants and conditions which may be affecting a public or commercial space, and therefore any related occupants. Our industrial hygienists conduct an in-depth investigation to evaluate indoor air quality and analyze the presence of contaminants, whether mold, asbestos, lead, or another hazard.
