The Housing Authority of New Orleans manages public housing in the New Orleans area. One housing project was the Magnolia, originally developed in 1941, and later renamed C.J. Peete. Following damages sustained from Hurricane Katrina, The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) authorized funding in 2007 for the demolition and redevelopment of the “Big Four” sites, including B.W. Cooper, C.J. Peete, Lafitte, and St. Bernard.
J.S. Held has been involved with various environmental, health and safety services from initial inspection through the redevelopment of the “Big Four.” J.S. Held completed Phase I ESAs; performed initial site assessments for asbestos, lead, and additional environmental hazards; developed asbestos, lead, additional environmental hazards and soil remediation protocols for several HANO properties; and played a significant role in the federal litigation against HANO for these projects.
