The Situation

J.S. Held was engaged by an insurance carrier to evaluate business interruption impacts due to a fire that occurred in an aircraft testing wind tunnel. As a result of extinguishing the wind tunnel fire, we learned that the insured had experienced severe water damage, causing stairwells and offices to be completely flooded in addition to the damage already caused by the fire.

How We Advised

When J.S. Held was engaged by the insurance carrier, we immediately began communications with the carrier, the insured, and the insured’s public adjuster. Our forensic accounting team quantified business interruption impacts as well as expenses incurred due to the loss. In addition to our forensic accounting team, our environmental, health, and safety team was engaged to investigate moisture hazards and drying impacts. In addition, our equipment consultants were engaged to evaluate machinery potentially impacted by the fire. Our consultants evaluated the machinery piece by piece to determine if it was impacted and whether it could be reused, repaired, or needed replacing. Our equipment and forensic accounting teams worked collaboratively to identify what equipment needed to be immediately replaced to get their business operating and avoid extensive business interruption impacts.

  • Across our service lines, our goal was to deliver the news consistently and unbiasedly.
  • When helping quantify the total value of the loss, we are not here to find the lowest or highest number. We are here to get the right number.
  • J.S. Held has access to multiple experts with wide-ranging expertise, which allowed us to serve our client without lapses in communication despite navigating a pandemic throughout the period of restoration.
