Dr. Farhood Nowzartash, MASc, PhD, PEng, CED is a proven leader with a broad and varied technical background. He is a qualified expert witness in Civil/Structural Engineering with a specialty in the forensic investigation of complex construction claims/litigation matters, the standard of care assessment and root cause analysis. He has over 25 years of experience in structural design and construction, including reinforced and pre-stressed concrete, structural steel, formworks, and wood structures. He has been an active member in the design process of multi-story and high-rise buildings, low-rise commercial buildings, bridges, oil and gas pipelines, sports complexes, stadiums, earth shoring, and concrete shoring. In addition, he has extensive experience with forensic investigations, large-scale commercial losses, industrial losses, building systems, surface water management, structural failure analysis, seismic hazard assessment, building rehabilitation, and stress analysis of component failures using Finite Element Modeling. Dr. Nowzartash has extensive knowledge of building code compliance and assessments in Canada and internationally, including CSA, OBC, NBC, ACI, and AISC. He has been the lead investigator in numerous Major and Course-of-Construction losses.

As a forensic expert, he regularly provides consultation to lawyers, insurance experts, contractors, manufacturers, owners, corporations, and municipalities concerning complex civil engineering litigations and claims related to building/structural failure, property damage, design/build issues, foundation issues, material failures, subrogation matters, professional and municipal liability, and engineering error and omission. He has authored well over 100 high-quality peer-reviewed technical reports for litigation purposes.

Dr. Nowzartash has successfully conducted investigations and led teams with some of the most complex and dynamic disasters to impact the built environment. He leads a group of engineers across Canada and provides coaching and mentorship to the Civil and Structural engineering group. He conducts causal investigations and failure analyses of structures and infrastructures (e.g. bridges, tunnels, waterways). He provides consultation to law firms, insurance professionals, contractors, and municipalities on issues related to the standard of care, negligence, professional liabilities, course of construction losses (builder’s risk), damage causation, the structural scope of remediation, claims verification, etc.
