J.S. Held was engaged to conduct remedial activities and investigate the impact of historic dry-cleaning operations at a property in New Jersey. Our team conducted soil, groundwater, and vapor investigations. Almost 40 monitoring wells have been installed across the subject property as well as about 2,000 ft of down gradient that encompasses an area of nearly 50 acres.
During the monitoring well installations, several wells were installed in Right-of-Ways (ROWs) utilizing multiple types of drill rigs, including rotary augers and sonic rigs, to account for the varying lithology and bedrock geology. For work safety and health measures, we conducted tailboard meetings at the beginning of each day and when site conditions changed. The tailboard safety meetings included equipment-specific drilling safety for the several types of drill rigs utilized. Traffic control measures were also discussed in the safety meetings. During the drilling activities, local police directed traffic and warned motorists of upcoming work zones. Cones, cone bars, signage, and barricades were used to create safe work zones and direct traffic effectively. The project required high levels of equipment movement between well installation locations. Upon the completion of a well installation, the current work zone would be broken down, moved, and set up again, accounting for that location’s safety risks. Our team helped to successfully install multiple wells with no safety incidents.
