The Situation

J.S. Held investigated and reconstructed a heavy truck collision on State Road 60 in Mulberry, Florida. The crash occurred between a 2016 International heavy truck and a group of pedestrians walking on State Road 60.

How We Advised

J.S. Held performed the following procedures:

  • Responded to the incident with rapid response service to preserve evidence immediately.
  • Visited, documented, photographed, and scanned the crash site.
  • Downloaded/preserved EDR data from 2016 International.
  • Analyzed the 2016 International involved in the crash and produced a computer model of the vehicle.
  • Produced a scaled computer model of the crash site based on the three-dimensional digital scan data collected during the site inspection.
  • Supplemented the scan data by conducting photogrammetric analysis on photographs and still frames from videos taken on the day of the crash to confirm the location of physical evidence, including the International heavy truck point of rest and pedestrian locations.
  • Paired the EDR download with video analysis to determine vehicle speeds, positions, braking, and steering with minimal uncertainty.
  • Analyzed videos from five primary camera positions on State Road 60 to determine vehicle speeds, positions, braking, and steering.
  • Analyzed videos and photographs to determine a detailed path analysis of three pedestrians in the area of the crash.
  • Produced visual aids of the crash sequence from multiple perspectives to show the impact between the 2016 International and pedestrians.
  • Produced a three-dimensional computer model that can be viewed with a virtual reality (VR) headset, where the viewer can see the crash happen in real time.
