J.S. Held Acquires Technorm, Québec’s Leading Forensic, Building Safety & Compliance Experts
Read MoreA J.S. Held expert was enlisted to assist in establishing a team of professional engineers to restore a building to a suitable condition for reconstruction. Initially, the engineer assigned to the project declined the re-certification of 18 glulam beams located on the main floor. The refusal was attributed to water infiltration from the roof, which had been damaged by a fire. The J.S. Held expert collaborated with a different engineer, conducting on-site testing and evaluation. Their joint efforts devised a structural integrity solution for the issue. The innovative approach not only addressed the problem at hand but also had the potential to result in cost savings of $750K for the clients, along with preventing a project delay of six months or more.
Confronted with an unequivocal rejection from a structural engineer, the J.S. Held expert drew upon prior expertise in tackling comparable structural challenges. Leveraging in-depth research with significant experience, he sought guidance from another skilled structural engineer. He articulated his concept and approach, persuading the structural engineer to undertake moisture and density assessments on the glulam beams.
This pivotal step subsequently paved the way for developing a restorative solution that allowed for the repair of the beams in situ, eliminating the need for replacement. As a result, substantial cost savings were achieved for the client, and potential protracted project delays were also averted.

J.S. Held has globally recognized professionals dedicated to assessing property and infrastructure damage for all industries in each geographic region. We have subject matter experts in architecture, construction, engineering, seismic, building envelope, materials science, and the building code.
> Moisture Surveys
J.S. Held consultants perform moisture surveys to assess the presence of moisture in specific building areas and components. Non-destructive tests such as infrared thermal imaging and moisture surveys help us further investigate roof assemblies, exterior wall cavities, drywall, and insulation for any potential issues while collecting additional documentation beyond visual observation.
> Mitigation & Remediation Monitoring
J.S. Held restoration consultants are relied upon to ensure effective and efficient remediation of building components. We serve as the "eyes and ears" of our clients to keep them informed on the progression and budgetary status of the project.
