Michael DeVries has over 30 years of expertise as a usability and user experience (UX) researcher and manager. He plans and executes research throughout the product development lifecycle, including mixed-method research (qualitative and quantitative), mental model development, ideation, comparative evaluations, medical device studies, and UX metric programs. He also leads UX/HF teams, develops program operations, and plans and executes research to support corporate objectives.
For the last 16 years, Michael led and mentored UX and HF teams, built UX programs, and designed and managed research facilities. He proposes, plans, and executes research across a wide range of industries. Some of the domains include eCommerce, telecom, mobile devices and apps, sonar systems, industrial equipment, consumer products, SaaS (B2B and B2C), home security, immersive technologies (AR/VR), online education, and military vehicles.
Michael’s work improves product usability, identifies new feature opportunities, and supports strategic decision-making through UX measurement programs. He advises clients on reducing product litigation risk through proactive UX and HF research and advisory consulting, and provides strategic guidance on usability, user motivations, and product design. His deliverables provide practical, defensible insights for both product development and legal contexts. In addition, Michael is also a co-inventor on 14 patents across two companies.
Michael holds an MSc in Psychology / Human Factors from the University of Idaho and a BA in Psychology from the University of North Texas.
