J.S. Held Acquires Shechter & Everett to Expand Forensic Accounting Capabilities for Family Law Disputes in Florida
Read MoreAn electrical fire damaged housing for processing equipment used to treat lumber in the Pacific Northwest. While the repairs were made to the facility, the processing equipment was down for approximately three weeks. During this time, the facility was unable to process two types of lumber products.
J.S. Held’s experts were engaged by the adjuster to analyze the claim and evaluate the loss of business income. A claims preparer was hired by the insured and measured over $2 million in lost sales value of production (the business was insured for the business interruption value of lost sales), and our experts analyzed production values, company statistics, sales and pricing data, and inventory values.
Our analysis demonstrated that inventory values prior to the loss mitigated the demand for the two types of lumber products during the three weeks the processing equipment was down. As we were unable to demonstrate lost sales with the data we received, we followed up with corresponding questions and requested additional documentation from the insured to clarify how inventory values— and, therefore, sales—were affected by the loss of production. Our questions and additional requests sparked an internal investigation at the processing facility, which led the insured to realize that existing inventory did indeed mitigate the loss of sales, ultimately resolving the business interruption claim at $0.
