We were engaged as operations advisors to assist a publicly-traded, Silicon Valley-based designer and manufacturer of security technology with a growing backlog of product due to supply chain and operational issues.
The Company encountered cash flow constraints stemming from an extended product development and market launch process, depleting their cash reserves as the business transitioned from the start-up phase to the commercialization growth stage. In addition, the accumulation of orders was growing due to substantial challenges within the supply chain and operational processes. To address these issues, we were engaged to utilize our extensive expertise in supply chain management and operational redesigns.
The primary objective of this engagement was to convert the backlog of orders for the first-generation product into immediate cash flow. Notably, the product was also in the transitional phase from first-generation to full-scale commercial production builds.
Our experts first analyzed the Company’s supply chain and identified solutions that allowed the Company to build and ship the backlog of orders for the first-generation product within three weeks of the start of the engagement.
We then led the effort to develop a fully-scaled production line for the next generation product and developed a system for efficient manufacturing flow and shop flow layout. Additionally, we developed new processes for picking, product traceability, safety, quality control, and testing.
As a result of our work, the Company was able to convert the backlog to much needed cash and is ready for full-scale production of the next generation commercial product.
