The Situation

A fire occurred on the site of a mixed-use apartment and retail building that was under construction. The fire initiated in the lower part of the structure and quickly spread across the entire building, burning it to the ground.

How We Advised

An insurance company engaged J.S. Held for support regarding our construction insurance claims services. Our team arrived at the site promptly and aided in determining the scope of the damage as well as the exposure. We quantified hard costs and evaluated the time-related elements, expenses, and general conditions of the remaining structure. Our team partnered with the insured’s general contractor to ask key questions and keep information transparent and all parties accountable.

A structural engineer in our Forensic Architecture & Engineering practice was also engaged. This expert assessed the remains of the cement foundation and skillfully advised what could be salvaged, repaired, or replaced.

Our forensic accounting team was engaged to quantify the business interruption and soft costs.
