J.S. Held Releases Insights on Risks & Opportunities Expected to Impact Organizations in 2025
Read MoreA two-vehicle crash occurred at a busy, signal-controlled intersection in Central Florida. An elderly couple in a small pickup truck were struck by an oncoming SUV while they were making a left turn. The couple felt as though there had been plenty of time to make their turn and that the oncoming car must have been speeding. They filed suit for property damages and injuries.
Our team was retained to perform inspections of the site and both vehicles and to provide accident reconstruction services. The site was inspected three days after the crash. In addition to ground measurements and photographs, a 3D scanner and a drone were employed to gather additional information about CCTV camera locations relative to the road. Subsequently, both vehicles were inspected, but the airbag modules could not be imaged. Based upon initial reconstruction calculations, the oncoming SUV had been going approximately 45 mph at impact, which was the speed limit. However, video evidence suggested a higher speed. Ultimately, a second, destructive inspection of the SUV yielded pre-crash speed data from the airbag module and revealed that the SUV had been travelling at nearly 70 mph prior to braking.
