A new school building was abandoned at the end of the school year because of complaints that the building was making students and faculty sick. J.S. Held toxicologists, industrial hygienists, and materials scientists worked together to identify the chemicals causing the illnesses, proposed and monitored remediation, and successfully convinced parents that the building was safe to occupy in time for the new school year.
