As a result of a major roof leak during a massive storm, a 1+ million square foot eCommerce fulfillment center suffered water intrusion which contaminated a variety of material handling equipment, electrical switchgear, information technology equipment, and a variety of other equipment. The value of the exposed equipment was well over $2M. More importantly, the event stopped all operations.
J.S. Held’s Equipment Consulting Practice was engaged to evaluate the equipment, determine the scope of the damage, develop corrective action plans, confirm the repair actions were completed correctly, and measure the recovery costs. J.S. Held partnered with the company’s engineers and the manufacturers to jointly assess the equipment and develop expeditious recovery solutions. The work commenced on a Friday night, and the team worked all weekend. With the implementation of temporary measures, the fulfillment center restored operations by Monday afternoon, and the permanent repairs were finalized a week later. The repairs were completed ahead of the original plan and under the original estimate. In addition, any business interruption implications were mitigated through the temporary measures and other actions the company took. The eCommerce and insurance companies were thrilled with the results.
