The Situation

A multinational healthcare and medical device organization had a relatively mature cyber security program. Leadership sought greater visibility into the cyber security incident response practices across its business units to evolve the program further. We were engaged in developing methods that allow business units to leverage corporate resources during a cyber event as well as identify and manage critical assets and processes uniformly across the enterprise without restriction or impediment to the existing operational business freedoms.

How We Advised

J.S. Held experts created a multi-phased work plan to achieve the client’s goals.

  • Stage 1: Assess corporate cyber-related programs, requirements, restrictions, and resources, as well as understand the corporate/business unit operational relationship.
  • Stage 2: Develop an enterprise-level cyber incident response security framework to manage process flows.
  • Stage 3: Develop product/business unit-agnostic requirements that foster cooperation between business units and corporate during a cyber event.

Our experts conducted stakeholder workshops with corporate and business unit teams throughout all stages, reviewed and developed documents, and stress-tested newly created process flows. We developed a company-wide cyber incident response framework, including complete life cycle product-specific and -agnostic incident response playbooks. Armed with the processes and playbooks, our experts tested the solution with select business units leading to a company-wide rollout across 150+ business units.
