Owner: Central City Concern (CCC)

Architect: Ankrom Moisan Architects

Contractor: Walsh

Description:

  • 151 residential units over two stories of clinical space (four stories of wood framing over a two-level concrete podium)
  • Located on 122nd & Burnside in SE Portland

The Situation

  • Very constrained site next to MAX blue line on a busy intersection with no parking or staging adjacent to the site.
  • Complicated design programming to provide medical, mental health, and housing for a vulnerable client population.
  • Complicated funding structure utilizing a variety of grants, LIHTC, etc., requiring two separate contacts for Clinical and housing within the same building.

How We Advised

  • Central City Concern (CCC) purchased a site across the street for temporary offices and staging. Careful coordination required to manage deliveries.
  • Multiple design and programming meetings to understand the vision as well as the practical requirements of the different uses, all while keeping focus on how important the client experience had to be for the population that we served.
  • Treated the project as two separate buildings with separate Contracts, Payment Applications, and occupancies.
  • The first facility of its kind, where people in need could receive clinical care and housing to help transition them back into the community.
