With over 20 years of experience in project design, encompassing various elements of industrial hygiene, safety, environmental hazards, and emergency response across the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Honduras, Iraq, and Puerto Rico,  Thomas Gormley serves as Assistant Vice President for Environmental, Health & Safety at J.S. Held, specializing in industrial hygiene, building sciences, and mitigation from catastrophic events.

Prior to joining J.S. Held, Thomas previously served as a Bioenvironmental Engineer in the U.S. Air Force and an Environmental Science Officer in Iraq during Operation Enduring Freedom. Thomas has experience as the Chief Environmental Health & Safety Engineer for a Tier 1 auto manufacturer supplier. His project expertise ranges from residential to manufacturing, healthcare facilities, educational, and tourist resorts, among others.

Thomas is an adjunct professor responsible for delivering annual refresher licensing courses in Indiana for Asbestos Building Inspectors and Asbestos Management Planners. Additionally, he teaches courses on HAZWOPER Refresher, radiation safety, silica exposure, and fall protection, thereby contributing to the ongoing professional development of environmental health and safety personnel. Thomas has provided expert testimony in legal proceedings and has received expert witness training from AIHA with an emphasis on testimonies from industrial hygienists. 

Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Biological Engineering with a concentration in Environmental Engineering from Purdue University, a Master of Science in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Environmental Engineering from Norwich University, and a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Economics from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.
