Roger Nutland joined J.S. Held in August of 2022 following J.S. Held's acquisition of the Arcadis Contract Solutions Practice in Europe. Roger is an experienced Chartered Surveyor and Chartered Builder with adjudication, mediation, arbitration, and litigation experience spanning a wide range of domestic and international projects, including building projects, civil engineering, oil & gas, and process engineering.
Having trained and held senior commercial positions with a national contractor, he has over 35 years of practical experience. Over the last 15+ years, Roger has regularly been instructed as an expert witness on quantum issues (valuation of disputed variations, prolongation, loss and expense claims, disruption, loss of profit, and damages claims) on projects ranging from relatively low value to over US$1B.
Prior to becoming a consultant, Roger was a director of a regional building contractor. Over 19 years he worked on projects in differing sectors, and had an active involvement in all aspects of the business, including commercial management, contract reviews, information/co-ordination requirements, estimating, budgeting, tender analysis, procurement, contracts management, programming & planning, progress reporting, quality control, health safety, cost management, cash flow, profit & loss monitoring, negotiations of final accounts and associated contractual matters, risk management, delay notifications and claim preparation and dispute resolution.
Immediately prior to joining J.S. Held, Roger spent over 10 years as a Partner at E.C. Harris/Arcadis LLP, where he was part of the Leadership Team managing the Contract Solutions business in the UK.
An experienced lead quantum expert, Roger is able to offer robust, realistic advice built on his sector experience, and manage teams in the evaluation or preparation of construction and engineering claims across the full range of dispute resolution processes.
Roger is a Senior Managing Director within the Construction Advisory practice of J.S. Held and part of the CA leadership team in the UK. Roger primarily acts as a lead quantum expert but also has extensive commercial experience to assist clients in the preparation and defense of contractual claims.
