Robert Leighton has over 40 years of professional experience in industrial hygiene and environmental health and safety management and consultation. Bob has trained, supervised, and managed a diversified staff of industrial hygiene, environmental, and safety professionals as the founder and technical director of Leighton Associates, Inc., an environmental health and safety consulting firm specializing in construction projects, indoor air quality, and the investigation, assessment, and remediation of environmental health and safety matters in real estate, property management, and property insurance claims, as well as environmental health interventions.

Bob’s past experience includes management of safety and industrial hygiene for several large corporations; development and administration of corporate industrial hygiene, safety, and health programs; and interaction with NIOSH, MSHA, OSHA, and various trade associations on the development of worker health studies, regulations, and rulemakings. He has experience in regulatory requirement oversight, hazardous materials inventories, maintenance planning, response to damage and spills, management of asbestos in place, removal of asbestos by outside contractors, and record keeping.

Bob’s expertise includes an in-depth knowledge and understanding of industrial hygiene, indoor air quality, OSHA compliance, mold, lead, asbestos, and combustion by-product contamination and remediation.

Bob has presented written and oral expert witness testimony in worker health and safety, indoor air quality, exposure to silica dust, mold, asbestos and lead, organic vapors, and property remediation and abatement of residential, academic, and commercial properties. He has been involved in the deposition process, including deposition and trial testimony, as a professional consultant and has participated in more than 35 recent cases.

He holds a Master of Health Science in Environmental Health Science from The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, and a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Chemistry from Lafayette College, Easton, PA.
