Philip Veall is part of J.S. Held's team of expert forensic architects, which advises on construction claims and disputes globally.

Philip is a RIBA Chartered Architect with over 20 years of practical experience and has worked for internationally recognized architectural design firms to develop award-winning design projects.  Experienced in taking building projects from concept design through to delivery on site, Philip has led teams of architects, coordinated the work of other consultants, and collaborated with specialist contractors across a broad range of building types, from high-quality arts and cultural buildings, educational facilities and complex transport infrastructural projects, to private residential buildings and bespoke domestic extensions. Many of these projects have involved working in sensitive historical contexts.

Philip’s work as a practicing architect is complemented by his detailed knowledge of facade engineering and building envelope performance matters for both new-build and historic buildings.

As a forensic architect and expert witness, Philip aims to provide clear, independent advice on complex design and construction issues to non-technical parties, including solicitors, insurers, and building owners. Philip has investigated design and construction disputes involving developers, architects, contractors, and building owners. Inquiries vary from desktop studies of particular construction issues to extensive investigations of multiple building defects on large-scale developments, including matters relating to planning permission, facades and building envelopes, acoustic separation, fire protection, water ingress / condensation, standards of finishes, and advice on professional duties and contract administration.

Philip has acted as an Expert Witness and prepared CPR-compliant reports for submission in court, arbitration, and adjudication proceedings in the UK and overseas, including most recently an ICC International Arbitration in the Middle East.

Philip has an MA(Hons) and Postgraduate Diploma in Architecture from Cambridge University and an MSc with Distinction in Façade Engineering from CWCT/ UWE Bristol.
