Phil Kirton joined J.S. Held in August of 2022 following J.S. Held's acquisition of the Arcadis Contract Solutions Practice in Europe. Phil is a chartered quantity surveyor with 20 years of experience in the Construction Industry. He began his career as a trainee quantity surveyor at Laing O'Rourke and progressively worked his way up to senior regional commercial management positions within multi-national tier 1 main contractors. He has an MSc in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution and a BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying.
Over the years he gained extensive hands-on experience in commercial management, procurement, tendering, operational management, and claims management on complex major projects.
Phil can find pragmatic solutions for contentious quantum issues and provide the right advice to effectively avoid, mitigate and resolve the impact of disputes. He is adept in the evaluation, preparation, and defense of construction and infrastructure claims including prolongation, disruption, variations, interest, loss of profit, and other indirect and consequential losses.
Throughout his career, Phil has worked with a range of clients in the public and private sectors under different procurement routes and has often advised clients on the most suitable and beneficial procurement route for their specific needs. He has practical experience using most forms of contracts such as JCT and NEC and was responsible for the review, negotiation, and agreement of complex main contracts and sub-contracts during his years working for main contractors.
Phil is involved in quantity surveying and project management on construction and infrastructure projects. He is involved in numerous disputes offering quantum analysis, assessment, and advice on projects ranging from heavy civils to building construction.
