Patrick Edmond is a Director in J.S. Held’s Global Investigations practice. He joined J.S. Held in May of 2023 as part of J.S. Held’s acquisition of Africa Matters Limited (AML).
Patrick primarily focuses on advising clients in the energy, mining, and financial sectors about investments in West Africa and Francophone Central Africa. Patrick has a robust understanding of political and economic developments across the region, with particular exposure to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Nigeria.
He has extensive integrity and compliance experience, conducting investigations on third parties, assessing country risk, designing governance policies, and conducting discreet investigations on operational assets.
Previously, he worked at The Risk Advisory Group, where he advised clients on investments across the continent, especially in DRC, South Africa, Kenya, South Sudan, and Somalia. He also conducted academic field research in DRC and Uganda on topics including oil governance, conservation, and armed groups.
Patrick leads J.S. Held’s Africa group’s work across West Africa, especially in Nigeria, where he interfaces regularly with top government officials. He manages several key client accounts in the mining sector, especially in the DRC, where he is in regular contact with the government or present in the mining region. He also leads the group’s integrity and compliance practice, conducting detailed integrity investigations into prospective or active investments across the continent. Patrick assists some of the largest investors across the continent in managing risks – across pre-transactional due diligence, asset history investigations, internal and operational integrity investigations, country-level money laundering or bribery and corruption risk analysis, or with strategic intelligence on operational challenges.
