Matthew is a Managing Consultant in the Financial Expert business unit working out of the Reston (DC Metro) office of Ocean Tomo, a part of J.S. Held. Matthew provides litigation support and forensic accounting consulting services, including financial statement analysis, the application of generally accepted accounting principles, regulatory compliance, valuation, calculations of economic damages, evaluation of complex accounting and financial issues, and identification of key underlying facts and trends. His casework frequently involves research related to GAAP, GAAS, PCAOB standards, and industry-specific authoritative literature. Matthew is responsible for assisting counsel with document review and discovery, preparation of expert reports, and analysis of opposing experts’ reports. His recent experience includes calculating economic damages resulting from an alleged partial breach of contract between multiple nuclear utilities and the United States Department of Energy.
Matthew earned a BBA and M.S. in Accounting, magna cum laude, from James Madison University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and an Elijah Watts Sells Award winner. This award recognizes individuals who passed all four sections of the Uniform CPA Exam on their first attempt and earned a cumulative average score above 95.50 across all sections.
