Matt Turco, MASc, P. Eng., CP, joined J.S. Held in August of 2025 as part of J.S. Held's acquisition of GHL Consultants, Ltd.

Matt implements performance-based fire engineering analysis and assists in the development of alternative solutions and Building Code compliance.

Matt holds a Master of Applied Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Carleton University, specializing in Fire Safety Engineering, as well as a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Civil Engineering from Carleton University. 

Matt’s master’s research involved testing the influence of sprinklers on radiation heat transfer to prevent fire spread to adjacent properties. Additionally, he has been involved in numerous research projects relating to mass timber construction testing, including protection configurations for CLT compartments, connection configurations for CLT floor panels, spacing impacts on NLT, and flame spread of mass timber assemblies. In 2015, Matt received the Canadian Fire Safety Association Founders Award for Leadership and Excellence.
