Indigo Ellis joined J.S. Held in May of 2023 as part of J.S. Held’s acquisition of Africa Matters Limited (AML). Prior to transitioning to J.S. Held, she acted as Managing Director at AML, leading the company’s work in Central and Southern Africa. Born in South Africa, Indigo is now based in London.
Indigo enjoys providing results-driven solutions that create value for her clients, host communities, and governments. She specializes in advising the mining, transport logistics, and energy sectors.
Prior to joining AML, Indigo led the Africa research team at global risk analytics company Verisk Maplecroft, focused on ESG and political risk. She started her career as an advisor on international development policy at the European Commission.
Indigo holds an MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Science in Theory and History of International Relations and a BA in French and History from King’s College London and École Normale Supérieure in Paris. Indigo speaks fluent French and intermediate Spanish.
Indigo co-leads the Africa-focused Strategic Advisory Group of J.S. Held, focusing on project management, scoping, and monitoring projects in Francophone and Southern Africa. She has extensive experience managing the company’s retainer relationships with major mining, infrastructure, and logistics clients across the African continent. Indigo has consulted on large, complex M&A deals, market entries, exits, and continued risk monitoring for listed clients. She has accompanied some of the continent’s biggest investors in their business challenges, such as taxation issues and market entries.
