Emily Wohlfarth specializes in forensic and water resources engineering. Her forensic engineering work includes building envelope inspections, focusing on foundations, roof systems, ceiling collapses, deflected flooring, and moisture intrusions to determine the cause and origin of structural failures. She also inspects staircases for code compliance in slip/trip and fall claims and assesses pipeline conditions using ultrasonic leak detection and electromagnetic inspection technology to predict and determine pipeline failures.
In her water resources engineering work, Emily contributed to developing the Northern Everglades Technical Plan, performed structural analyses on the Tampa Bay Reservoir, and collected monitoring well data to assess the feasibility of an aquifer as a water supply in Sarasota, Florida. She has analyzed water supply sources in Texas and worked with municipalities in Maryland to monitor and assess wastewater pipelines. Emily was also part of a team addressing a sanitary sewer overflow consent decree for the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission in Maryland.
Emily leads the Forensic Architecture & Engineering practice group at J.S. Held, overseeing a team of over 100 professionals, including Civil/Structural Engineers, Seismic Engineers, Certified Fire Investigators, Code Experts, Forensic Architects, Marine Engineers, Geologists, and Geotechnical Engineers. Her team operates across six countries: the US, Canada, Colombia, the United Kingdom, Mexico, and the United Arab Emirates. They perform forensic evaluations to determine the cause and origin of structural damage and fire events, assess the extent of damage, and provide repair recommendations to restore properties to their pre-loss condition.
