Dr. Blake Pellman, Ph.D. has over 15 years of experience conducting research in academia and industry on topics spanning learning and motivation, psychological stress and trauma, risk-based decision-making, spatial navigation, gamification, market audience identification and profiling, and the user experience (UX) of consumer and business products, platforms, and services. Dr. Pellman has developed and tested products from early concept through launch and beyond across various technological domains, including digital creation and editing software, virtual and augmented reality, interactive entertainment, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and digital therapeutics. He specializes in generating insights into user needs, motivations, and behaviors and evaluating product usability, engagement, effectiveness, accessibility, and safety.

Prior to joining J.S. Held, Dr. Pellman was a user experience researcher at Microsoft, where he led proactive UX research to deeply understand user needs and motivations, increase adoption and engagement with consumer services, and develop accessible and immersive interactive experiences. Before his experience at Microsoft, Dr. Pellman led UX research on developer tutorials and learning systems at Google for the Google Cloud Platform.

He received his doctorate in psychology with an emphasis in behavioral neuroscience from the University of Washington, where he developed novel research methods to understand the neural processes and contextual factors involved in risk-based decision-making. Dr. Pellman has published original research in peer-reviewed scientific journals and has authored review articles and book chapters as a subject matter expert.

Dr. Pellman is a Senior User Experience Researcher with J.S. Held’s state-of-the-art scientific User Research Labs (URL), based out of the Phoenix, AZ location.

J.S. Held’s URL provides product safety and UX research along the entire product lifecycle based on 50 years of human factors and failure analysis. Leveraging his expertise across quantitative and qualitative methodologies, Dr. Pellman crafts bespoke user research that targets clients’ unique product and business needs.
