Gabriel Barrie joined J.S. Held in May of 2022 as part of J.S. Held's acquisition of GPW. Gabriel has advised clients on political risk across numerous jurisdictions, including Eastern Europe, South Asia, and Latin America.
Gabriel guides companies on political and operational risks in a wide range of emerging markets. He is particularly active in advising multinational development banks on integrity-related risks ahead of potential investment in the Middle East and North Africa and has recently traveled to Israel, Palestine, and Jordan.
His recent work includes political risk and market entry analysis for a client entering the Romanian renewable energy sector, a due diligence report for a development bank considering operating in Belarus, including assessing the sanctions exposure of key stakeholders, and investigative research into the potential involvement of controversial members of the ruling elite in the Moldovan energy sector
Gabriel is fluent in English, French, Italian, and German. He had a BA in Classics and Oriental Studies (Sanskrit) from the University of Oxford
and an MPhil in Greek and/or Roman History from the University of Oxford.
