Courtney Berkowitz is a licensed Professional and Structural Engineer experienced in forensic evaluation. His experience includes but is not limited to causation evaluation, extent of damage determination, interpretation of building code requirements, structural integrity analysis, and preparation of conceptual repair scopes. His expertise includes but is not limited to structural steel, concrete, wood, and masonry structures damaged by fire, wind, impact, explosion, fatigue, moisture, gravity loads, hail, and differential foundation displacement.
Mr. Berkowitz has experience in the structural design of buildings and bridges. His areas of expertise include both steel and concrete design. His structural engineering experience has included designing concrete buildings, steel buildings/support structures, and steel girder bridges with concrete substructures. Mr. Berkowitz has also evaluated existing buildings that need modification or repair and provided design calculations and drawings for retrofitting.
Mr. Berkowitz provides forensic engineering property and structural consulting services. He leads evaluations and manages projects from initiation through final report delivery. His typical responsibilities include but are not limited to onsite inspection, evidence documentation and analysis, structural analysis, preparation of sealed engineering reports, and formulation of conclusions regarding causation, extent of damage, applicable building code requirements, and conceptual repairs. He also manages client relationships and provides internal peer review services. In his time at J.S. Held, Mr. Berkowitz evaluated structures of varying construction types subjected to various damage mechanisms.
