JAKE MELLO

Jake Mello is a professional construction and reconstruction consultant based out of Philadelphia, Pa. employed by J. S. Held, Incorporated. Jake has been with J.S. Held since 2004 and is currently responsible for consulting on fire, water, freeze, explosion, flood, collapse, vandalism, and hurricane damages. Jake has consulted on large complex insurance losses including universities, casinos, hospitals, malls, merchandise tenants, high rise hotels, motels, high-rise office buildings, pre-engineered steel buildings, apartment complexes / high-rises, manufacturing / process buildings, and multi-building corporate campuses. His ability to work with others in synthesizing complex reconstruction issues and making cost effective decisions has facilitated the timely completion of major projects and resolution of large, complex insurance claims.

Representative assignments include:

  • Reconstruction consulting on major damages caused by Hurricane Ike. Jake managed the construction consulting of over 30 locations throughout the greater Houston region.
  • Flo-Sun, Baltimore Domino Sugar Refinery. Jake assisted the client in the review and reporting of damages sustained by the loss event as well as establishing the resolution of scope and bid review for the project. The complexity of this project required a complete redesign of the manufacturing process utilizing the existing building space.
  • Louisiana Worship Hospitality, The New Orleans Grand Palace Hotel. Jake assisted in the analysis of a vandalism claim (post Hurricane Katrina) for damages to a partially vacant hotel containing 1049 guestrooms. The complexity of this project required the separation of pre-existing conditions caused by the hurricane vs. the damage caused by vandalism.
  • Hurricane Katrina, Tulane University reconstruction project: Jake's role included participating in multiple construction meetings, management of inspections and documentation of damages sustained by the loss event. Jake assisted in the preparation of litigation for property damages / period of restoration and worked conjointly with peripheral experts including industrial hygienists, engineers, architects, accountants and attorneys on the dispute resolution.

Prior to joining J.S. Held, Jake was employed by an excavation / site development contractor where he was responsible for developing bids proposals and the oversight & participation in the completion of projects. Jake is a 2003 graduate from the Savannah College of Art and Design and holds a BFA in Industrial Design.
